Anne Glee (nee Mawson) is a former Senior Ballroom Champion reaching a ranking of 7th in the UK with her previous partner, Ian Pickles. Together, Ian and Anne represented the UK in international competitions and appeared as dancers on “A Touch of Frost” before retiring from competition in 2003. In 2005, Anne moved to Spain to help Ian establish the only English style Ballroom Dance school in Mallorca. Anne is qualified as a ballroom dance teacher with the UKA. (United Kingdom Alliance).
Returning to England in 2009 to care for her elderly father, Anne started her ballroom dance school in Huddersfield running classes in local village halls. Thanks to the support of her students, she was able to set up her own purpose built studio that ran very successfully in the beautiful village of Shelley, West Yorkshire until 2019.
2019 proved to be challenging as Anne was juggling her time caring for not just her own father, who had now developed dementia, but also her step-father, who was suffering from COPD. A very hard decision was made to close the studio at Shelley so Anne could spend more time with her ailing relatives. She continued to offer classes in local halls, reverting to the original business model and then Covid hit with a vengeance forcing closure of all classes in March 2020.
We are now happy to announce that we are able to re-open again and will be offering adult group classes and private lessons on a limited number of nights through the week.
Despite not having home to call their own, the informal and friendly atmosphere and the patient and expert tuition that has been the Glee’s hallmark style since 2009 continues. Anne is very much looking forward to welcoming new and old clients onto the dance floor – and let’s hope we don’t have to close our doors again!
